Hyderabad: HYDRAA officials on Monday reclaimed prime land worth nearly Rs.100 crore from encroachers near Jubilee Hills Checkpost. The 2,000-square-yard plot, belonging to the Jubilee Hills Cooperative Housing Society, had been earmarked for public use.For the past 20 years, the land was under the control of an encroacher, Pilla Satyanarayana, who had fabricated a house number and was running a plant nursery on the site. Despite several attempts by the GHMC to reclaim it, Satyanarayana secured a court order for status quo and continued to operate, even constructing temporary sheds. The Housing Society later complained to HYDRAA through its Prajavani platform. Acting on commissioner A.V. Ranganath’s orders, HYDRAA conducted an inquiry and confirmed the land was reserved for community purposes. Notices were served, but Satyanarayana again approached the High Court. This time, the court struck down the earlier order and allowed HYDRAA to proceed. On Monday morning, officials demolished the illegal sheds, giving nursery operators time to move the plants before clearing the structures. Boards were then erected, marking the land as reclaimed. Jubilee Hills Cooperative Housing Society president Ravindranath and other members welcomed the move, calling it the outcome of a long legal battle. They thanked the government, HYDRAA commissioner Ranganath and GHMC officials for restoring the land to the society.
