Chennai: Was Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s son, Jai Shah, a cricket player who contested elections to become the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC)? This was how DMK deputy general secretary A Raja retalited to Amit Shah’s charge that the aspiration of Sonia Gandhi was to make her son Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister and that of the DMK was to make Udhayanidhi Stalin the Chief Minister. In a statement on Friday, Raja said it was not possible for the BJP, known for its vote theft, to steal the votes of the people of Tamil by using Thirukural, in response to Amit Shah’s claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was running his government based on the principles enunciated in Thirukural at a meeting of the BJP’s booth committee members in Tirunelveli on Friday. Accusing the BJP and Amit Shah of indulging in excessive falsehoods, Raja said that 39 percent of the members of the Narendra Modi Cabinet had criminal backgrounds and wondered if the 130th Constitutional amendment would be invoked against them. Quoting verses from Thirukural to slam Amit Shah, he said that if Thiruvaluvar had been alive today he would have exposed him through his poetry. Replying to Amit Shah’s statement that the DMK should be uprooted before announcing the triumph of the NDA in the 2026 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Raja said that it was the toxic BJP that should be uprooted from India, which would be anyway done by the people of the country and the INDIA coalition. Referring the Union Minister repeating his oft-repeated statement that the DMK was the most corrupt party, the DMK leader said that in 2018 the same Amit Shah had termed the Edappadi K Palaniswami-led AIADMK government as the most corrupt government and earlier, in 2016, had described the J Jayalalithaa government as the most corruption dispensation. After finding the AIADMK, under both Jayalalithaa and Palaniswami, to be corrupt, Amit Shah had shamelessly struck an alliance with that party, Raja pointed out and recalled a series of alleged frauds committed under the Union BJP government like the electoral bonds scam, to a Rs 7.5 crore corruption pointed out by the CAG and the gross irregularities in the Rafale aircraft deal.
