KARIMNAGAR: Continuous heavy rainfall over the past week, coupled with heavy inflows from the Kudavelli and Palvancha streams, has brought the Upper Manair Dam (UMD) reservoir to its full capacity of 2 tmc ft. With inflows persisting, floodwaters have entered Narmala village of Gambhiraopet mandal in Rajanna Sircilla district.Revenue and police officials have taken precautionary measures, installing barricades on both sides of low-level bridges where water is flowing dangerously. The inflow has been recorded at 2,202 cusecs, with an equal volume being released downstream. Authorities monitoring the situation have warned villagers to remain alert, avoid low-lying areas, and advised farmers not to keep livestock or water pumps near stream banks. District collector Sandeep Kumar Jha and police superintendent Mahesh B. Gite visited UMD, offered prayers, and instructed officials of the irrigation, police, and revenue departments to remain on high alert and continuously monitor water levels. They also ordered the release of 50 cusecs of water from the project into the right canal. Meanwhile, a temporary mud road between Lingannapet and Gambhiraopet was washed away by the floodwaters, disrupting traffic between the two villages. Residents expressed anger at authorities for neglecting repeated pleas to construct a high-level bridge or repair the existing one. Separately, with the release of 14,000 cusecs of water from the Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) and 3,150 cusecs from the Gayatri pump house in recent days, the water level in the Mid Manair Dam (MMD) has risen to 15.636 tmc ft, against its full capacity of 27.55 tmc ft. Officials are currently releasing 3,200 cusecs of water from MMD to the Annapurna project.
