Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday welcomed Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, India’s first astronaut aboard the International Space Station (ISS), at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. Visuals showed the prime minister embracing Shukla and viewing pictures of Earth taken from space. Shukla also presented Modi with the Axiom-4 mission patch. Earlier in the day, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla hailed Shukla’s successful mission and return, describing it as a “matter of pride and inspiration” for the nation. Addressing the House, Birla said Shukla’s achievement would inspire Indian youth and strengthen the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat by 2047’. The Lok Sabha also briefly discussed India’s maiden astronaut aboard the ISS and the critical role of space exploration in shaping the country’s future.
