Cyclone-induced rain disrupted normal life in North Andhra region. Under the impact of the deepening low pressure in the Bay of Bengal, people could not step out of their houses due to the incessant rain. Officials declared holiday for all the private and government schools, apart from anganwadi centres as a precautionary measure. Heavy rain was recorded in several mandals in Srikakulam district — Jalumuru, LN Pet, Vajrapukotturu, Amudalavalasa, Sarubujilli, Kothuru, Lavery, Kaviti and Kaviti. The Nagavali, Vamsadhara rivers are receiving steady inflows. Minister Atchannaidu alerted the district officials in view of the heavy rainfall. A control room has been set up at the collectorate with the contact number 08942 240557. People living on the banks of rivers have been advised to be alert. District Collector Swapnil Dinakar suggested that fishermen should not venture into the rivers as the water-level is rising. In neighbouring Vizianagaram district too, heavy rain has led to submergence of several areas. Over 11 passengers suffered injuries after the private bus in which they were travelling turned turtle. The rear tyre of the Venkata Ramana bus travelling in the Hyderabad-Vizianagaram route got on to the divider leading to the overturning. In Visakha district, paddy crop in 100 acres in Pandrangi of Padmanabham mandal, and several acres in Vilasakhaanipalem was submerged under water. All the private and government degree and PG colleges under the purview of Andhra University remained closed after AU Registrar Dhanunjaya Rao declared holiday in view of the security of the students, due to incessant rains. Several trains were cancelled and diverted on the Kirandul route in view of the heavy rains pounding the place. Trains 18515m 18516 Visakha-Kirandul Express will be diverted through Raigad on Monday and Tuesday. Train No. 58501 Visakha-Kirandul passenger has been limited to Araku. From there, it would go back to Visakha. Train No. 58502 Kirandul passenger was constricted to Koraput. The Visakha-Kirandole, Kirandole-Visakha passenger trains schedule on Tuesday have been cancelled.The cyclone effect is expected to continue and heavy rain has been forecast on Tuesday too.
