Change To Begin From Within For Collective Action In The Pursuit Of A More Prosperous India: Minister Lokesh

VIJAYAWADA: Education minister Nara Lokesh has said change must begin from within, and cited Mahatma Gandhi’s famous message to the people, “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”Addressing the Independence Day event here on Friday, Lokesh called for collective action in pursuit of a more prosperous India. He said this was a shared festival of the nation. Recollecting his own school days, the minister spoke of the nostalgia associated with the flag-hoisting ceremony and the sense of patriotism it instilled in young minds. Highlighting the significance of non-violence, the minister said this was “the most powerful weapon” gifted to India by Mahatma Gandhi. He emphasized the principles of truth and non-violent resistance as the cornerstone of India’s Independence struggle. Lokesh acknowledged the unique historical contributions of Telugu groundbreakers in the freedom fight, including iconic figures like Andhra Kesari Prakasam Pantulu and Alluri Sitaramaraju. He urged the current generation to honour their sacrifices and work towards the progress and welfare of the state. Reflecting on the ongoing significance of the Independence struggle, Lokesh remarked, “Guntur’s land bears an indelible mark of the freedom movement.” He praised the heroes who participated in various protests and movements against British rule, affirming that the spirit of patriotism should transcend caste, religion, and regional divides. The minister highlighted the educational reforms he initiated since last year, underscoring their aim to enhance learning outcomes and equity across schools in the state. He called for a return to merit-based hiring and a focus on quality education free from political influence.
