Hyderabad:The Cabinet will meet at the Secretariat on Monday in what is being described as an emergency meeting convened by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The key item on the agenda is the deliberation and approval of the Justice P.C. Ghose Commission report, which investigated alleged irregularities in the design and construction of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIS) during the previous BRS regime. The commission submitted its sealed report to the state government on July 31. It was formally handed over to the Chief Minister by irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on August 1.Immediately after receiving the report, the Chief Minister constituted a three-member committee of senior officials to study the findings and prepare a comprehensive summary. The summary was finalised on Saturday and will be placed before the Cabinet for discussion. Based on this, the Cabinet is expected to decide the future course of action on the Ghose Commission’s recommendations.Sources revealed that the Cabinet may also take up the long-pending Justice Lokur Commission report, which examined alleged irregularities in power purchase agreements (PPAs) signed during the BRS tenure. Though the report was submitted in October last year, its contents have not been made public so far.Another significant issue on the Cabinet’s table is the proposed 42 per cent BC quota in local bodies. The state government had drafted an ordinance in July and forwarded it to the Governor for assent. However, after holding it for over a week, the Governor referred it to the President of India, where it remains pending. In response, the Cabinet last week resolved to stage a three-day protest in Delhi from August 5 to 7, demanding that the Centre and the President clear the BC quota Bills passed by the Telangana Legislature.Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will lead the protest at Jantar Mantar on August 6 and is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu to seek immediate approval. Monday’s Cabinet meeting is also expected to finalise arrangements for the Delhi agitation.
