KARIMNAGAR: Forest officials rescued five illegally captured parakeets and arrested five individuals in connection with the case at the Anjaneya Swamy Temple in Kondagattu, Jagtial district, on Saturday. The rescue operation was initiated following a complaint from members of the Stray Animal Foundation of India, prompting officials to provide proper care and rehabilitation for the birds.A. Goutham, manager of an organisation called India Cruelty Prevention, reported that a formal complaint had been filed with forest officials in Kondagattu regarding the illegal captivity of the birds, citing violations of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. However, due to delays in official action, the organisation sought the intervention of former Union minister and prominent animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi. Following a phone conversation with the officials, Gandhi urged immediate action. Her intervention, along with Goutham’s efforts, led to the swift rescue of the parakeets.
