KAKINADA: Amid heavy rains, Housing Minister K Pardha Saradhi has asked officials to rely on disaster management methods and help prevent loss of life and property in Eluru district.The minister enquired with officials about the situation in the district on Friday and said people in low-lying areas should be evacuated and shifted to safer places and relief measures should follow. The mandal and district officials should coordinate with each other to prevent damage to life and property.He said revenue, police, electricity, medical, agriculture, irrigation, Panchayat Raj, R&B and other departments should observe the rising flood water levels in streams, rivulets, culverts, causeways, canals and other water bodies and take suitable steps.Officials must submit a report on the damage to vegetable gardens and other commercial crops in Nuzvid constituency. They should guard against disruptions to transport services and get uprooted trees and other obstructions removed from the roads immediately, he said.Meanwhile, the Eluru district health officer, PJ Amrutham, appealed to the people to be vigilant so as to avoid getting infected with viral fevers like malaria, dengue, chikungunya etc. They must maintain personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness.
