Telangana HC Rejects IAS Officer Srilakshmi’s Plea in Obulapuram Mining Case

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has dismissed a revision petition filed by IAS officer Y. Srilakshmi, seeking acquittal in the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) illegal mining case. The court upheld her status as an accused, paving the way for the CBI to investigate her role further.In October 2022, a CBI court rejected Srilakshmi’s discharge petition. Challenging this, she approached the High Court, which initially ruled in her favor, excluding her from the case. However, the CBI appealed to the Supreme Court found fault with the High Court’s decision for not considering the CBI’s arguments. The Supreme Court directed the High Court to rehear the case within three months, ensuring both parties’ arguments were considered.During the fresh hearing, the CBI argued that Srilakshmi, as Secretary of the Industries Department in 2006, abused her authority to facilitate OMC’s mining leases. The CBI further alleged that Srilakshmi, the sixth accused, misrepresented facts in her revision petition by omitting prior dismissals of similar petitions by the High Court. The CBI presented evidence of OMC’s misuse of power in securing leases, asserting that Srilakshmi must face trial in the lower court.After reviewing the arguments, the Telangana High Court dismissed Srilakshmi’s revision petition, reinforcing her involvement in the case.
