Vijayawada: As part of the Continuing Medical Education initiative, a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Hands-on Workshop was successfully conducted at the Divisional Railway Hospital in Vijayawada. The workshop, held under the guidance of Dr Ch. Srinivasu, Chief Medical Superintendent of the Vijayawada Division, aimed to enhance the emergency response capabilities of nursing and clinical staff, with a sharp focus on cardiac emergencies.The one-day session covered essential topics including Basic Life Support (BLS), use of Defibrillators and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), and ECG interpretation in cardiac events. Participants received structured instruction and actively engaged in hands-on practice using both adult and child manikins. “This kind of practical training is vital. In critical moments, it’s not just about knowing what to do—it’s about being able to do it fast and do it right,” said Dr A. Sivaram, Anaesthesiologist and faculty member for the session. “We focused on real-world scenarios to ensure participants leave with confidence in their ability to respond.” The workshop featured expert resource persons, including Dr Vijaya Kumar, Critical Care Specialist, who highlighted the need for frequent upskilling in emergency medicine. “Techniques and protocols evolve,” he said. “This workshop bridges the gap between knowledge and action. CPR is a skill that fades without practice, and today’s event provided that much-needed refresh.” Dr Sai Prakash, Cardiologist, led the ECG interpretation session, demystifying rhythm abnormalities and their clinical relevance. “Early identification of cardiac events through ECG can mean the difference between life and death. Our goal was to make interpretation both intuitive and precise,” he noted.
