Visakhapatnam: Several parts of Andhra Pradesh received rainfall in the past 24 hours due to an upper air cyclonic circulation over south coastal Andhra Pradesh. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati, Royachoti in Annamayya district recorded the highest rainfall on Saturday with 7.5 cm, followed by Chintalapudi in Eluru district with 6 cm. Tuni received 4.4 cm, while Chodavaram and Koduru registered 4 cm each. The IMD report stated that an east–west trough currently runs from south Karnataka to south coastal Andhra Pradesh at an altitude of 5.8 km above mean sea level. It also noted that the upper air cyclonic circulation over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and its surrounding areas—previously extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level and tilting south-westward with height—has now become less marked. Due to these weather systems, heavy rain is likely at isolated locations across north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also expected at isolated places in these regions. Additionally, strong winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph are likely in some areas. The IMD has forecast continued rainfall activity across the state until July 25.
