Hyderabad: A 20-year-old BTech student died by suicide at his residence in Bahadurpally, allegedly due to mounting debt-related harassment linked to a betting application.According to Mailardevpally police, the deceased, T. Ramakanth, a second-year engineering student at Malla Reddy University, was found dead in his room on Sunday morning. His father, Thotapalli Thirupathi, a farmer from Kataram village in Jayashankar Bhupalapally district, lodged a complaint stating that his son had revealed being trapped in a betting app and was under pressure from those to whom he owed money.Thirupathi said he had already repaid Rs.34,000 to an individual named Gnaneshwar on his son’s behalf, but they continued to harass Ramakanth for interest payments. The victims also informed his family that a group to whom he owed Rs.10,000 had seized his friend’s laptop and mobile phone to pressure him.Despite family support, Ramakanth continued to face persistent threats and mental stress. On July 13, he called his father again, seeking more money. The next morning, on July 14, he contacted him once more, saying the harassment had not stopped. Around 10.30 am, a friend alerted the family that Ramakanth had attempted suicide. He was rushed to a hospital in Bahadurpally, where he was declared dead.Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into those allegedly involved in harassing the student.2 private firm staffers booked for rash drivingHyderabad: Two young private employees from Ramanthapur were booked by Uppal police on charges of misbehaving and rash driving. They were involved in chasing a cab in which IT employees were travelling. The incident occurred on Sunday night. According to police, accused were identified as Deepak, 21, and Bablu, 19 and the case was registered under the relevant sections. The victims did not file a complaint in this regard. The techies were returning home from Pocharam IT corridor and heading towards Tarnaka via Uppal Crossroads when the cab driver honked at a few vehicles.This triggered the two youngsters on a scooter “allegedly” under the influence of alcohol, to shout at the cab driver and also used abusive language against the passengers. The duo also made “obscene gestures” and followed the cab aggressively.“We identified the scooter from the video and called them to the police station and issued a warning. A case has also been registered,” said Uppal inspector Election Reddy. However, police could not confirm whether the duo were drunk as no breathalyzer test was conducted at the time.The duo were called to the police station on Monday and were counselled which will continue for the next three days, the police said. Girl dies by suicide in ChoutuppalHyderabad: A 10-year-old girl studying in Class V in Thoopranpally died by suicide on Sunday evening at her school.The deceased was a native of Maldakal mandal in Jogulamba Gadwal district. A police complaint was filed, said Choutuppal inspector G. Manmadha Kumar.A case was registered under BNSS Section 194 and an investigation has been launched. Although no suicide note was recovered, police said preliminary inquiries revealed that the victim was deeply distressed about living in the hostel. “School staff and fellow students said she often cried when her parents dropped her off, indicating she was reluctant to stay,” police added.Following a post-mortem at the Choutuppal area hospital, the body was handed over to the family for the final rites. Further investigation is ongoing to determine the complete circumstances surrounding the incident.Class IX student attempts suicideAdilabad: A Class IX student at a School in Naspur, attempted suicide on Monday in Mancherial district. A native of Dandepalli mandal, she was reportedly unwilling to stay in the hostel. According to sources, school staff immediately rushed the victim to the government hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.Man injured after being hit by convoy of Peddapalli MPAdilabad: A middle-aged man, K. Suresh, was injured when he was reportedly struck by the convoy of Peddapalli MP Gaddam Vamsi near the Gudem checkpost in Dandepalli mandal on Monday, as Vamsi returned from attending several programmes in the area. Suresh, who was riding a motorcycle, suffered a head injury and was first taken to Luxettipet Hospital before being transferred to Karimnagar for further treatment.Wife, lover kill husband, heldHyderabad: In a chilling case of premeditated murder staged as a road accident, a 37-year-old man was allegedly killed by his wife and her lover with the help of hired killers in Motakondur, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district. Initially reported as a road mishap, the incident was later confirmed as a murder following a complaint filed by the victim’s uncle, who raised suspicions about the wife’s role.According to Motakondur sub-inspector Upender, the deceased, D. Swamy, was employed at a private tractor showroom. On the day of the incident, he was riding his two-wheeler near Kattangur when a speeding car hit him, resulting in his death. However, inconsistencies in the sequence of events and concerns raised by Swamy’s family led police to reclassify the case as murder.The victim’s wife was taken into custody for questioning and reportedly confessed during interrogation. Police said she had developed an extramarital relationship with a man she met while working in Bhongir a year ago. Together with her lover and two hired henchmen, they allegedly conspired to eliminate Swamy.Swamy’s uncle filed a complaint naming the wife as a suspect, prompting the police to widen their investigation. The wife, her lover, and the two contract killers have been detained by Motakondur police.
