NMC Directs Private, Deemed Medical Colleges to Disclose All Fees Pre-Counselling, Citing SC Judgment

Hyderabad:Citing the Supreme Court judgment in April highlighting the non-disclosure of fees by private colleges, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed private and deemed universities to disclose detailed information regarding tuition fees, hostel charges, caution deposits and miscellaneous charges at the pre-counselling stage. The Supreme Court mandated that all colleges to submit these details. The apex court had also issued interim directions concerning non-payment of stipends and illegal imposition of internship fees. This is pertinent for Telangana, as many students from private colleges have been struggling to receive even meagre stipends for their internships. In some colleges, the management and authorities also threatened students who protested for stipends. The NMC has also circulated a Google Form link for uniform disclosure and monitoring. The form has to be filled and submitted to the cmmmission. “Many medical colleges are also sharing the fee structure and stipend details on Intra MCC portal, however the same is not comprehensive,” the NMC notification mentioned. The medical body added that non-compliance with the above requirements shall attract regulatory action including issuance of show-cause notice, imposition of financial penalties, withdrawal of course recognition and suspension of admissions.
