Governor Appreciates Horticulture’s Phenomenal Growth in AP

Vijayawada: Governor S. Abdul Nazeer underlined that Andhra Pradesh has witnessed a phenomenal growth in the horticulture sector, with the production rising to 275.13 lakh metric tonnes in the last few decades.Addressing the 6th Convocation of Dr. YSR Horticultural University at Atkur in Krishna district on Thursday, the Governor appreciated that several horticultural crops like chilli, cocoa, lime, oil palm, papaya, tomato, cashew, mango, banana and sweet oranges are being grown across Andhra Pradesh over 15.98 lakh hectares.“The state is transforming into one of the major horticultural hubs in the country,” Abdul Nazeer remarked.He observed that India is steadily emerging as a global economic power house. It is a vital contributor to the world’s food supply. The nation’s food grain production reached an unprecedented 354 million tonnes in 2024–25 crop year, registering a 6.5 per cent rise in production compared to the previous year.The Governor pointed out that crops like wheat, rice and maize have registered a record harvest, reflecting significant advancements in agricultural practices being adopted by farmers.Abdul Nazeer congratulated the students who received their degrees, apart from medals and awards for their academic performance. University vice chancellor Dr. K. Gopal presented the annual reports. Those present included National Academy of Agricultural Research director Dr. Gopal Lal.
