Telangana HC Issues Notice to Govt Over Ad Hoardings

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has directed the state government to respond to allegations that it is applying dual standards in permitting the installation of hoardings across the state’s municipalities. Notices have been issued to the principal secretary of Municipal Administration, the commissioner of Municipal Administration, the GHMC commissioner, the assistant commissioner (advertisements), and others.Earlier, in compliance with a High Court order, the government issued GO 68, mandating the removal of all LED hoardings taller than 15 feet within GHMC limits. Challenging this move, 53 advertising agencies, including the Telangana Outdoor Media Owners Association, filed a petition in the High Court, arguing that authorities had failed to act on their repeated representations. The petitioners have asked the court to direct officials to extend to all agencies the same relaxations that were allegedly granted to a few advertising companies. Hearing the matter, Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy observed that selectively granting exemptions would be legally unjust. The judge issued notices to the government and adjourned the case to August 6 for further hearing.
