Hyderabad Police Launch SWAT Teams

Hyderabad: For the first time, the Hyderabad city police has launched a dedicated Swift Women Action Team (SWAT), comprising 35 women police officers trained in Krav Maga, the Israeli self-defence martial art. The team was officially deployed at the Telangana Secretariat on Saturday.“These officers have undergone two months of intensive training in Krav Maga and unarmed combat. The system, developed in Israel and used by its defence forces, equips our officers to respond swiftly to threats,” said Hyderabad police commissioner C.V. Anand. The primary role of the SWAT team will be to manage women protesters during dharnas, rallies and public gatherings. They will also be deployed at major events and festivals across the city, ensuring crowd control in situations involving women participants.“These teams will help the police respond to sensitive cases involving women and will be especially useful during emergencies. Though unarmed, the officers are trained in self-defence techniques to manage hostile situations effectively,” Anand said. The SWAT officers, wearing newly designed uniforms, will operate primarily in situations requiring tactful handling of women crowds and will serve as a rapid-response unit for deployment citywide when needed.
