Hyderabad: Two women picnickers from Miyapur in the city drowned, and three hospitalised after a boat capsized at the Sarpanpalli project in Vikarabad district on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Rithika, 44 and Poornima, 50.According to police, five persons of a family came to Sarpanpalli to spend the weekend at a resort. To reach the resort, the family members hired a boat. When the boat was in the middle of Sarpanpalli project reservoir, it capsized and the five tourists fell in the water.Locals noticed the mishap and jumped into the water to rescue them. Three persons were rescued but Rithika and Poornima drowned. Their bodies were later retrieved from the reservoir. The three survivors are unconscious and shifted to the hospital. “The mishap took place due to untrained boat drivers. Even as there are specific guidelines not to operate boats, some private persons indulged in operating boats. We will initiate action against them,” police said. Rachakonda Police Clear 2,847 Pending NBWs in Special Drive Hyderabad: In a month-long exercise aimed at ensuring the presence of accused in ongoing trials, Rachakonda police disposed 2,847 pending non-bailable warrants (NBWs) as part of a special operation launched specifically to reduce case backlog and speed up judicial proceedings. The drive, titled NBW-Free Commissionerate, saw special teams executing over 2,000 warrants and filing court petitions in the remaining cases.Rachakonda police commissioner G. Sudheer Babu said the initiative was launched after the number of pending warrants grew from 1,088 in January 2024 to 2,847 by April-end. Many of the accused were deliberately avoiding court appearances or were found absconding for years. Some were even committing new crimes while out on bail.Police formed nine special NBW teams were formed, each comprising one sub-inspector and four constables, to execute the warrants across Telangana and other states. Of the total, 2,024 accused were physically produced before court, while in 823 cases, police followed due legal procedures such as proclamation, property attachment, and notices to sureties, Sudheer Babu said.The special operation resulted in clearing of 1,408 long-pending warrants which were issued before 2023. In 52 cases, the accused were found to be deceased, and teams worked on procuring death certificates and related documents and furnished to the according courts. Meanhwile, 14 were already in jail. Warrants were regularised in such cases to resume pending trials. A few accused voluntarily approached courts after learning about the intensified crackdown.The operation also identified NDPS related offenders and repeat absconders whose trials was stalled due to non-execution of warrants. In some cases, courts were requested not to grant bail given the accused’s history of evasion. Cyberabad SHE Teams Catch 66 in Decoy Ops, Conduct Extensive Safety DrivesHyderabad: The Cyberabad SHE Teams conducted 154 decoy operations for a week ending Saturday at public places, catching 66 individuals red-handed for indecent behaviour. Petty cases were booked against 57 of them and all of them were counselled in the presence of their parents. The unit received 16 complaints from women through various channels and held 85 awareness sessions and five counseling programs across the Commissionerate.The women police station at Gachibowli received 29 complaints involving marital disputes. Of these, 11 were registered as formal cases, while the rest are under counselling.AHTU teams rescued nine women sex workers and two transgenders. They also conducted awareness drives on issues like human trafficking, child abuse, child marriages, online harassment, and cyber frauds.As part of Operation Muskan-XI, 74 children were rescued. Of them, 69 were reunited with families and five were admitted to shelter homes. A total of 23 cases were registered under this initiative. Meanwhile, the Bharosa Centre handled 31 family counselling cases to resolve husband-wife disputes and encouraged reconciliation.
