Kishan Reddy Hits Back At Kharge

Hyderabad: Union minister G. Kishan Reddy strongly condemned AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge’s alleged remarks at a meeting in Hyderabad, where he reportedly referred to BJP leaders as “neither men nor women.” Terming the comments “indecent, objectionable and thoughtless,” He said that such remarks are unbecoming of a national party president and likened them to the rhetoric of a “street leader,” calling it a new low for the Congress. He questioned whether the remarks reflected Kharge’s own opinion or if he was merely reading from a prepared script. According to Kishan Reddy, the Congress party’s frustration over repeated electoral setbacks was making it lash out at the BJP instead of addressing its own leadership failures. Responding to Kharge’s criticism of the Modi government over not taking back Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), Kishan Reddy dismissed it as “laughable” and reminded him that the origins of the PoK issue trace back to the decisions of the Nehru-led Congress government in 1948. He added that even after India’s victory in the 1971 war, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi did not reclaim PoK and unconditionally released 90,000 Pakistani prisoners of war. On Kharge’s remarks about the Constitution, Kishan Reddy accused the Congress of misleading the public regarding the inclusion of “secular” and “socialist” in the Preamble. He pointed out that it was the Congress that amended the Constitution during the Emergency and jailed opposition leaders. He asserted that the BJP has never called for the removal of those terms. Kishan Reddy also slammed the Congress for failing to deliver on its poll promises in Telangana. He said the party made six guarantees and 420 promises, but has failed to implement any of them. He reminded that senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Kharge, had assured the people that all promises would be fulfilled within 100 days, yet none have materialised. Unless Kharge apologises for misleading the public, Kishan Reddy warned, the Congress will face defeat in Telangana due to growing public anger.
