Visakhapatnam: As part of an anti-drug operation, Visakhapatnam police, in the early hours of Saturday, arrested two individuals near the Engineering College campus of Andhra University and seized 25 gm of cocaine and cash totalling Rs 3.6 lakh , one motor vehicle, three mobile phones and a grey-colored diary containing hidden narcotics.The arrested individuals were identified as Chekuri Akshay, also known as Munna, 34, and Thomas Dijmon, 30, a South African citizen residing in Delhi. The operation was carried out by the III Town police team led by circle inspector P. Pydiyya. Acting on a tip-off regarding illegal drug transportation, the police raided the NCC camp office at AU North Campus around 2:00 am on Saturday. The suspects were found in a car. During the investigation, the accused admitted to the smuggling. The accused, Akshay, admitted to consuming cocaine with his friends identified as Raghu Krishna Chaitanya and Gautam and had coordinated with Dijmon to supply the drug to an individual named Prince in Delhi. The cocaine was reportedly concealed within the diary when the suspects were apprehended while attempting to flee the scene. A case was registered by the police who were searching for the third suspect, who is believed to be based in Delhi and was the intended recipient of the narcotics shipment. The arrested individuals will be produced before the IV Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate for judicial remand.
