BJP leader Midathala Ramesh urged the government to reinstate full-fledged Telugu medium schools across the state, stating that currently, not a single school is functioning completely in Telugu, which is a concerning situation for a state formed on linguistic principles. In a representation submitted to DRO Uday Bhaskar and Nellore RDO Naga Anusha, the BJP leader noted the irony of official celebration of former chief minister NTR’s birth anniversary, a symbol of Telugu pride, while the Telugu medium education is being neglected in government schools. He criticised the previous government’s policy of phasing out Telugu medium schools without official notification and mandating English medium, which he claims, has resulted in 30% of rural students losing comprehensive learning abilities.Ramesh also pointed out that Tamil and Urdu medium schools continue to operate, Telugu, unfortunately, has been compromised—allegedly due to World Bank funding influences. He termed this a “deeply worrying trend.”Emphasising the sacrifices of Potti Sriramulu who laid down his life for the formation of a Telugu-speaking state, Ramesh said it was unfortunate that the language was now being distanced from its people. He demanded the government reintroduce both Telugu and English mediums side by side, warning that failure to act could push the Telugu language, spoken for centuries, into endangerment. Several local leaders, including Alluru Nagendra Singh, Narala Subbareddy, A. Padmavati and Narayana Rao participated in the representation.
