Hyderabad: VIT Mauritius on Tuesday said it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Binghamton University, the state university of New York. The MoU will provide students with cross-continental opportunities in both academic and research fields.The MoU was signed on the Binghamton campus in New York by Dr G. Viswanathan, founder and chancellor of VIT, and Dr Harvey G. Stenger, president of Binghamton University. Nobel laureate Dr M. Stanley Whittingham, along with senior leaders from both the institutions, were present at the signing, the statement said. Dr Viswanathan said that the collaboration between the universities would open the doors for students to get high-quality education in the United States of America, while also strengthening academic ties between the two universities. VIT Mauritius was established to create a global learning environment by bringing together students from Asia, Africa and Europe. The island nation, located in the Indian Ocean, is well known for safety, tropical climate, and English-speaking population. The country also serves as a hub for international students from Asia, Europe and Africa. Approved by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Mauritius, VIT Mauritius offers BTech degrees in computer engineering, civil engineering and specialisations in AI and data sciences. Students who enroll at the university are allowed to work part-time for up to 20 hours a week, and are eligible for a three-year post-study work permit. Classes at the university will begin in July 2025.
