Security Guard Job Sparks Meme Fest

Vishal Mega Mart recently conducted a large-scale hiring campaign to recruit thousands of security guards across the country. However, what began as a routine recruitment drive has now gone viral on social media, sparking a flood of memes and reels with the hashtag #Vishalmart trending on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook. The job listing—detailing the qualifications and experience required for the position—caught the public’s eye and quickly became a source of humour online. Many users began circulating exaggerated takes on the selection process, with memes comparing it to some of India’s toughest competitive exams such as UPSC, NEET, and JEE.Adding to the hilarity, social media was flooded with AI-generated images of celebrities like Virat Kohli dressed in Vishal Mega Mart security uniforms, and fictional coaching centre ads promising to “crack the Vishalmart exam.”The recruitment exam was held on April 1 and included questions on current affairs, English, and the local language. Candidates also had to undergo physical fitness checks and medical evaluations. Preference was given to applicants with prior experience as security personnel, as well as those with training in shooting or martial arts. Aspirants from across the state turned up for the exam, but only the top 1% reportedly made the cut.The job offers a salary ranging from ₹9,000 to ₹25,000 per month, based on experience, along with medical benefits, provident fund, and staff discounts. While the trend has amused thousands online, it also highlights a serious underlying issue—India’s growing unemployment crisis. The overwhelming response to an entry-level job and the fierce competition involved underscore the scarcity of employment opportunities in the country.
