Hyderabad:GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan visited the city’s main solid waste processing and disposal facility at Jawaharnagar to review its operations. He was accompanied by additional commissioner (sanitation) Raghu Prasad and executive engineer (solid waste management) Sreenivasa Reddy. They inspected the tipping floor, composting units, compressed biogas and the waste-to-energy plants. This is managed by Hyderabad Integrated MSW Ltd (HIMSW) and processes municipal solid waste to recover compost, biogas and electricity.Karnan stressed the need to reduce the burden on the Jawaharnagar facility. He asked officials to speed up the development of decentralised waste processing units at Pyaranagar and Dundigal. Later, Karnan held a meeting with residents welfare association of Bhavaninagar, AS Rao Nagar division, and discussed civic issues and measures needed to improve infrastructure in the locality.
