Hyderabad:Cyber crooks posing as representatives of a nationalised bank duped a victim of Rs 4,26,464 after he placed an online order for an electric vape hookah. According to city cyber crime officials, the victim lodged a complaint on Tuesday stating that he had placed an order on April 28 for an electric vape hookah worth Rs 3,000 and made the payment online.An hour later, the victim received a call claiming that the product was ready for delivery. The caller asked the victim to pay Rs 2,999 as a delivery charge, stating that the amount would be refunded after delivery, said city cybercrimes ACP R.G. Siva Maruthi.The victim made the payment. Subsequently, another fraudster said the amount was stuck with different merchant banks and asked for another payment. Since April 28, the crooks in all had the victim transfer Rs 4,26,464 transferred into their accounts. The victim eventually realised that the website was fraudulent and that the delivery tracking number provided was fake. He then approached the city cybercrime unit.
