Happening director Lokesh Kanagaraj has established himself as a major force in Kollywood, delivering one blockbuster after another without a single flop to his name. Now, for the first time in his illustrious career, Lokesh has teamed up with Superstar Rajinikanth for the highly anticipated gangster drama Coolie, set to release on August 14, 2025.Although Coolie began as a Rajini-centric project, it quickly evolved into a massive multistarrer, drawing acclaimed talent from across the Indian film industry. The ensemble cast includes Nagarjuna, Aamir Khan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, and more, making this a true pan-India cinematic event. In a recent interview, Lokesh shared an interesting behind-the-scenes insight. He revealed that Malayalam actor Soubin Shahir had to opt out of six to seven other films during the eight-month production of Coolie. “Even though I am making a huge multistarrer, I am not making movies like RRR, which keeps actors occupied for three years. I wrap up my films in six to eight months. So I insist that my actors are fully committed to the project and maintain consistency in their looks throughout the shoot,” Lokesh explained.Collaborating with a director like Lokesh Kanagaraj is widely seen as a career-defining opportunity. While actors like Soubin may need to turn down other projects, the nationwide reach and massive fanbase they gain by working with Lokesh more than compensate for the sacrifice. It’s a trade-off that many are eager to make.
