BJP Activists Booked for Attacking Karachi Bakery over Name Row

Hyderabad: The RGIA town police registered a case against 10 BJP activists for attacking a Karachi Bakery outlet in Shamshabad, demanding that the name board be removed. The bakery has repeatedly explained the background to the name, but still comes under attack at the time of India-Pak tensions.According to RGIA inspector K Balaraju, the incident occurred at around 3 pm on Saturday, when the activists entered the bakery’s premises, raised slogans and demanded that the board be removed because of its alleged Pakistan reference. Staff members called the police, who reached the spot. Some activists attempted to break the board with a stick but police were able to prevent any major damage, said the inspector Balaraju. “Our team reached there on time. Nobody was injured, no major damage occurred.”Karachi Bakery in Shamshabad was reportedly vandalised, and anti-Pakistan slogans were allegedly voiced at the location. pic.twitter.com/pS4zjSMuVg— Deccan Chronicle (@DeccanChronicle) May 11, 2025 A video of the incident was being widely circulated on social media platforms. The police registered a case against all the activists and served notices on them. Investigation into the incident is underway. While the bakery management did not put out an official statement following Sunday’s incident, it had earlier clarified: “We are an Indian brand, not a Pakistani one.” They had appealed to the Telangana police for protection. “Karachi Bakery was started in Hyderabad in 1953 by our grandfather, who migrated to India during Partition. The name comes from there. It has been 72 years. We request Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the Telangana DGP’s support to prevent any change in the name. We are an Indian brand and not a Pakistani brand,” the statement had said. The bakery had been advised to put up Indian Flags above their signboards at the Begumpet and Maozzamjahi Market outlets.
