Mission Shakti Ensures Safety Of Girls: Collector

Warangal:A series of awareness programmes are being conducted across Jangaon district under the Mission Shakti initiative to empower women and ensure the safety and protection of girls, said district collector Rizwan Basha Shaik on Saturday. He informed that a total of 395 grassroots-level awareness programmes have been organised by the district women and child welfare department, reaching 31,247 members of women’s groups at the district, mandal and village levels. These sessions focused on promoting social and economic empowerment and spreading awareness of various government welfare schemes for women.Highlighting initiatives aimed at adolescent girls, the collector said incinerators have been installed in every government school and college across the district to address health issues caused by the unsafe disposal of used sanitary napkins. These machines provide a hygienic solution, eliminating the risks associated with chemical exposure and improper disposal. As part of the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao campaign, the district hub for empowerment of women (DHEW), in collaboration with the district welfare department, has set up incinerators in 12 KGBVs, model schools, government and private colleges, social welfare institutions and ST degree colleges to promote menstrual hygiene among girl students. In addition to installing sanitary infrastructure, awareness has also been raised on issues such as girl safety, nutrition, menstrual health and overall well-being. These initiatives have led to tangible improvements in students’ hygiene and safety, he added.C.H. Vinitha, a Class 9 student at the KGBV in Lingala Ghanapuram mandal, said they previously disposed of napkins in dustbins, which caused foul odours and health problems. “Now, with the incinerator, we feel cleaner and healthier,” she said.A. Teja Sri, a Class 9 student at the KGBV in Palakurthy mandal, echoed similar sentiments, saying she and her classmates now feel safe and no longer face health issues. Principals and teachers across schools and colleges have thanked the district collector, stating that the incinerators have significantly improved campus cleanliness and contributed to better hygiene for girl students.
