Cases Will Be Booked Against Underage Children For Driving Vehicles: Adilabad Police

Hyderabad: Adilabad Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan on Saturday said that the underage driving was an offence as per law. Speaking at a counseling session organized for the parents of minors caught while driving vehicles, Mahajan said cases would be registered according to law if a minor was found to be driving vehicles in violation of norms. He said the vehicle owners and parents, who allow minors to drive, will be implicated in these cases. He also highlighted that if a minor unknowingly causes an accident, insurance coverage would be invalidated. He assured that necessary assistance would be provided to middle-class families in obtaining driving licenses for their children once they turn 18. Mahajan said that during a week-long special drive conducted across the district, as many as 295 minors were caught, and all 295 vehicles were seized. These vehicles were subsequently returned to the parents after they attended the counseling program at the headquarters. Mahajan said that the children under 18 years of age lack the capacity to drive vehicles safely. He urged parents to monitor their children and ensure they do not wander unnecessarily on roads, especially at night. He warned that minors driving vehicles can cause accidents resulting in loss of life, either their own or that of responsible drivers, thereby harming families. He strictly advised parents not to encourage their children to drive before they are legally eligible. Mahajan said that every vehicle operator must possess a valid license and should learn the road safety rules and regulations.
