Amaravati To Be Model Capital Under Viksit Bharat 2047 Vision: CM

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu aims to develop Amaravati as a model capital under India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. He notes that the potential for IT, AI, Green Energy, clean industries, education and culture in Amaravati is immense, and “we will unlock every bit of it.”After taking charge of the state last year, Naidu prioritised the revival of Amaravati. A sum of 36 crore was immediately allocated to remove invasive vegetation across nearly 25,000 acres there. The central government has since then extended strong support, granting 15,000 crore in financial assistance for capital development. In addition, it sanctioned 2,245 crore for a new 57-km railway line connecting Amaravati. The APCRDA project office was reopened, signifying the restart of capital works.Furthermore, a committee of experts was appointed to assess the status of the stalled projects. After detailed consultations, 23 actionable recommendations were made and accepted. Issues with contractors are being resolved, and where necessary, fresh tenders will be floated. By December, full-fledged construction activity would resume.According to Naidu, the Centre would provide all necessary financial and institutional support to make Amaravati a global city. “The Centre will bring in top-class institutions, digital infrastructure, urban transport systems and green energy solutions.”He said the Modi government has committed 15,000 crore for Amaravati’s development via multilateral institutions like the World Bank and Asian Development Bank, each promising $800 million. An additional 1,500 crore has been directly sanctioned for Amaravati by the central government. HUDCO has signed an agreement to extend 11,000 crore, and discussions are ongoing with banks and financial institutions to strengthen the funding base.Amaravati’s core capital will house thematic, non-polluting cities within the city —a Government City, a Justice City, a Finance City, a Knowledge City, a Health City, a Sports City, an Electronics City, a Media City and Tourism City.Naidu said, “The adjoining industrial hubs in the capital region will enable balanced growth, allowing more intensive industries outside the capital core while maintaining economic vibrancy within. Top-tier institutions like VIT, SRM, NID, BCI Law School, Amrita University and upcoming BITS Pilani and XLRI are set to promote the knowledge economy.”Amaravati capital, he said, would be developed as a logistics and trade hub, ensuring seamless market access for farmers, entrepreneurs and industries across Andhra Pradesh.State-of-the-art highways, expressway and rail links will connect Amaravati with major ports like Krishnapatnam, Kakinada and Visakhapatnam, boosting exports and agri-market integration. To empower farmers, a modern agri-market ecosystem will be established, including cold chains, warehouses, food processing parks and digital mandi networks. The Chief Minister said, “Importantly, doing justice for farmers, all illegal cases against Amaravati farmers will be withdrawn, reaffirming the government’s commitment to protect those who sacrificed land for the capital. With new railway lines, port linkages, solar-powered housing, and green building mandates, Amaravati is set to become south India’s commercial gateway and a model for sustainable urban growth.”
