Veteran Bengali actress Uma Dasgupta, known for her iconic portrayal of Durga Roy in Satyajit Ray’s Pather Panchali (1955), passed away on Monday after a prolonged illness. She had been hospitalised in her final days.Dasgupta had been battling cancer for several years before her passing. Her death was confirmed by her relative, actor and politician Chiranjeet Chakraborty, to Anandabazar Patrika.
