Rahul Gandhi vacates government bungalow: Reports

Rahul was forced to vacate the bungalow after he was disqualified as Lok Sabha MP following his conviction in a criminal defamation case. NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday vacated his government bungalow, reports said.

According to a report, Rahul Gandhi’s belongings have been moved to his mother Sonia Gandhi’s 10 Janpath residence.

The Lok Sabha Housing Committee, headed by BJP MP CR Patil, had sent him a letter asking him to vacate his 12 Tughlaq Lane bungalow, which he has been occupying since 2005, by April 22.

Rahul was forced to vacate the bungalow after he was disqualified as Lok Sabha MP following his conviction in a criminal defamation case.

Gandhi was convicted by a court in Gujarat’s Surat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state, and sentenced to two years in prison in a 2019 defamation case for asking at an election rally whether people with the “Modi surname” were “thieves”.

Gandhi had approached the sessions court for appeal after the lower court sentenced him to two years in jail.

But the sessions court in Surat rejected Rahul’s plea.
