Hyderabad: The Gopalapuram police have registered eight more criminal cases against Athaluri Namratha, owner of Universal Srushti Fertility Centres, and several of her associates for their alleged involvement in an extensive illegal surrogacy and child trafficking racket. These individuals are accused of running an organised criminal network under the guise of fertility services, systematically exploiting vulnerable couples both emotionally and financially.North zone DCP S. Rashmi Perumal explained that a case was registered against Dr Namratha and her associates for defrauding a couple with fake surrogacy claims on July 27. During the investigation, police arrested 25 individuals, including doctors, lab technicians, managers, supervisors, agents and birth parents of the trafficked babies. All were connected to an illegal surrogacy and baby-selling racket operated under the guise of fertility treatments at Universal Srushti Fertility Centres in both Secunderabad and Visakhapatnam. “Investigation into the initial complaint revealed a wider network of deceit, with multiple victims coming forward with similar allegations of cheating, organised medical fraud and child trafficking. Based on the victims’ complaints, Gopalapuram police registered eight more cases. The accused took Rs 22 lakh from the victim couple in the guise of surrogacy and later showed a deceased child to them as their own. Investigation revealed that an unrelated pregnant woman had delivered the child, who later died due to health complications,” the DCP said. Those arrested so far include Dr Namratha, owner of Universal Srushti Fertility Centre; Pachipala S.S. Jayanth Krishna, advocate; Katikireddi Kalyani Atchayyamma, manager, Visakhapatnam branch; Gollamandala Chenna Rao, lab technician and embryologist; Maranganti Pavan Mohan Krishna, supervisor; Gollamandala Surekha, nurse. Police have also arrested Arimilli Vidyullatha, paediatrician; Vishala Shahina; and Nargula Sadanandam, anaesthesiologist at Gandhi Hospital assisting procedures at the Secunderabad clinic. From Visakhapatnam, the police have arrested Dr Pulumuru Usha Devi, gynaecologist; Dr Vasupalli Ravi, anaesthesiologist; Bingi Ramya, junior embryologist. Mohammed Ali Adik and Nasreen Begum, birth parents from Assam, were arrested along with a range of agents and sub-agents: Dhanasri Santoshi, who procured babies, Muthipeta Nandhini, Harsha Roy, Mohammed Asha Begum from Aramghar and Nayan Das from Bihar. Also arrested were Kodoor Ratnam, sub-agent; Kona Meenakshi in Visakhapatnam; Bagalam Saroja and Kodamala Karuna Sree in Vijayawada; Jinugu Vijay Kumar in Khammam; and Kantipudi Yamuna, sub-agent.
