At least six people were killed, and more than 15 others injured in a stampede during a festival at the Lairai Devi temple in Shrigao village, Goa, late on Thursday night, according to ANI. North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal confirmed the death toll.Thousands of devotees from Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka had gathered at the temple for the festival,the exact cause of the stampede would be ascertained after a probe.Preliminary reports suggest that overcrowding and inadequate arrangements were likely to blame for the tragic incident.Following the stampede, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant visited the North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa to meet with the injured and extend support. Several people remain in critical condition, and authorities are still assessing the full extent of the casualties.”Deeply saddened by the tragic stampede at the Lairai Zatra in Shirgaon this morning. I visited the hospital to meet the injured and have assured all possible support to the affected families. I am personally monitoring the situation to ensure that every necessary measure is being taken.
