Raipur: The issue relating to the shortage of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer in the state on Thursday rocked the Assembly here, leading to suspension of 30 Congress MLAs including the Leader of Opposition (LOP) Charan Das Mahant and former chief minister Bhupesh Baghel from the House for a day.Raising the issue during the Question Hours, Congress member Umesh Patel sought to know from the government whether there is shortage of DAP and what is the demand and supply of the fertilizer in the state.In his reply, state agriculture minister Ramvichar Netam admitted that there is a shortage of DAP fertilizer in the state and the government is promoting nano DAP among the farmers to deal with the issue.Mr. Netam said in the kharif season 2025, a target of 3,10,000 metric tonnes of DAP has been set by the Centre for the state.A supply plan of 2,10,100 MT has been granted by the Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers from April to June 2025, against which 1,08,155 MT has been supplied till June 30, he said.“In the current kharif season, a shortage in supply of DAP is being reflected against the supply plan issued till June 30”, he added.He attributed the shortage to the global reasons.Dissatisfied with the minister’s reply, the Opposition members created an uproar, leading to adjournment of the house for five minutes.They again raised the issue when the House resumed its business and entered the well.Speaker of the Assembly Raman Singh suspended 30 Congress members for entering the well and later announced that they were suspended for the day when they were found to be still shouting slogans inside the well.
